Step 1: Consultation
Before receiving treatment at Dr Refresh, we ask that our patients come in for a consultation to meet with Dr Ritu Gupta or her associate dermatologists, who are specialist medical and cosmetic dermatologists, or one of her nurses and therapists. At this consultation, we want to hear from you and learn more about your concerns. We take this time to evaluate your scars and determine which of our options for scar revision will be best for you.
Step 2: Scar-Revision
We may utilise several treatments to yield the best results for scar revision in Ultimo. If your scars are more superficial, they may only need laser procedures or RF microneedling. But for deeper, intense scars, we may utilise subcision or punch excision methods, or surgical scar removal. You can rest assured that we will provide the best treatment for you with the maximum comfort possible.
Step 3: Follow-Up
Since our treatments for scar revision vary in intensity, your recovery period may be shorter or longer. Laser methods typically require several days of downtime, whereas surgical scar removal may need longer recovery. We will instruct you on exact aftercare at your appointment with Dr Refresh.
Laser Resurfacing
We integrate a combination of CO2, Erbium, or Picosecond laser devices to carefully eliminate layers of the scarred skin and encourage growth of new, scar-free skin.
RF Microneedling
RF microneedling punctures the skin with tiny needles while emitting radiofrequency to induce collagen production for healthier, brighter, and smoother skin.
TCA Cross
Our specialist applies trichloroacetic acid (TCA) to each individual scar to chemically stimulate collagen remodelling and reduce scar depth and width
Volume Loss Treatment
We can “fill in” depressions made by scars with volume loss treatments.
Punch Excision
Punch excision involves removing the scarred area and closing it up with sutures to make the skin smooth again.
Subcision
Through a technique known as subcision, we free the skin from the underlying scar tissue to reduce any indentations from scars.
Surgical Scar Removal
For deeper scars, we perform surgery using local anesthetic to re-make and reposition the scar, so that it can heal as smoothly as possible. No hospital admission is required.

What are keloid scars?
Keloid (or hypertrophic) scars refer to scars that appear raised after the wound heals. This is caused by the skin overproducing collagen to heal the injury. These keloid scars can be quite stubborn and often need professional-grade treatments to lessen their appearance.
What is scar subcision?
Scar tissue pulls the skin down and creates an indented appearance. Scar subcision involves a fine needle that carefully separates the scar tissue from the new skin to let the skin bounce back up and smooth out any indentations.
What is punch excision?
Punch excision is a minimally invasive method for scar revision in Ultimo that does not require surgery. After applying a local anesthetic, we use a punch tool to remove the excess scar tissue. Then the wound is closed with a tiny suture, and the look of the scar is significantly improved after it heals!
