Step 1: Consultation
Before receiving treatment at Dr Refresh, we ask that our patients come in for a consultation to meet with Dr Ritu Gupta or her associate dermatologists, who are specialist medical and cosmetic dermatologists, or one of her nurses and therapists. At this consultation, we want to hear from you and learn more about your concerns. We take this time to develop a treatment plan and determine if tattoo removal is right for you.
Step 2: Laser Tattoo Removal
Thanks to our innovative Picosecond laser, we can treat tattoos more quickly, effectively, and safely than ever before. The laser targets a variety of pigments beyond just black or blue to fade almost any tattoo. We will move the device slowly as the laser sends pulses of thermal energy into the skin, fracturing the tattoo ink into tiny particles.
Step 3: Follow-Up
Your body will reabsorb the scattered ink particles over time, but it takes several sessions to treat each layer of the skin safely. We will instruct you on how to care for the treatment site, which normally includes applying a topical cream and staying out of the sun.

Is laser tattoo removal painful?
If you could handle the pain of getting the tattoo, you’ll certainly be able to handle the discomfort of removing it! Laser tattoo removal is more intensive compared to typical laser procedures, since it strives to break down pigment within the skin. If need be, we will ask you to apply numbing cream 30 minutes before your appointment.
How many sessions will I need for laser tattoo removal?
The number of sessions you may need depends on the size, pigment, and area of the tattoo. We wait several weeks in between sessions to allow your skin to heal. Plus, some patients may respond better to removal than others, only needing a few sessions for complete elimination. However, typically we see patients for at least four sessions, and larger tattoos may require upwards of eight for best results.
How long will each session take?
While the session length depends on the tattoo size, your tattoo removal appointment will typically take anywhere between 15 minutes to one hour at Dr Refresh in Ultimo.
