Dr Ritu Featured in ELLE Australia: Warns Against The Dangers of Unlicensed Injectors for Cosmetic Procedures

ELLE Magazine

Dr Ritu Gupta was recently interviewed in ELLE Australia’s special report “What Is Botulism? The Cosmetic Injectable Related Disease Behind Three Sydney Hospitalisations” by Ruby Feneley.

The report warned Sydneysiders who have received cosmetic injections to be alert for symptoms of botulism—a rare but life-threatening disease—after a recent outbreak linked to anti-wrinkle treatments. Among the victims were a Sydney woman, who was admitted to intensive care, and two other individuals, both of whom were also hospitalized after developing botulism symptoms.

Cosmetic injections containing botulinum toxin are often used in patients to improve facial appearance. When administered correctly by a licensed practitioner, these treatments can reduce fine lines and wrinkles and soften features.

Dr Ritu explicitly warns against getting cosmetic treatment from not-appropriately trained clinics, stating that they could be using products from the black market or overseas sellers. These products are questionable when it comes to dosage and sterility, which can place patients at risk.
