Pedestrian TV Interviews Dr Ritu on Skincare

Dr Ritu Gupta, specialist dermatologist, was recently interviewed by Pedestrian TV, regarding “caveman” skin care TikToker Tia Zakher.

This new skincare trend involves skipping every routine, such as cleansing, exfoliating, and protecting. Even washing your face with water is prohibited.

Washing skin to remove dirt, oil, and pollution is a critical part of a skin care regimen. Keeping dead skin and dirt from building up for long clogs pores, allowing bacterial, fungal, and yeast infections to grow. Dr Ritu highlighted that overlooking simple skin hygiene can worsen conditions such as acne, folliculitis, or milia.

Dr Ritu explained that skin care minimalism is not bad at all as long as it’s not taken to “caveman” extremes. There’s no need to take ten steps to clean your skin, but one should still have basic hygiene, such as using a gentle cleanser and a moisturiser with sunscreen.

Finally, Dr Ritu expressed her concerns about how the caveman skincare method and other similar trends affect the most vulnerable audience: young people. These trends may seem harmless, but when taken seriously, they may lead to serious skin damage. She adds that if complicated routines are too much, one can go for a simple routine, but don’t ever skip the basics.
